The Big Dig

When you learn about fossils you get to dig for "fossils" in class!!!
Today students were able to "dig" for "fossils" and discuss with each other about the types of tools
they were using and how Paleontologists use certain tools when they are digging for fossils. 🔍

Man, I miss the warm temps!!

Oh wait, we still have warm temps here in the middle of January!! Recess is fun for the teachers too!! Side note: this was tacky sock day at school 😂

We are learning about FOSSILS!!

This is one of the students' favorite units (mine too)!!! They become so interested it what happened long ago and how they are able to become little scientist even now.

Character Dress-Up Day

At our school we celebrate characters from different books on or around Oct. 31st. This year we all picked books about the different types of weather and dressed up as different weather conditions. It's one of our favorite days!!!

Rockin' and Rollin'

We have finished our rocks and minerals unit. The students learned all about the different types of rocks and minerals we find all around us. We talked about and discovered minerals we eat and use everyday (this was very amusing to them 😊)!! At the end of our unit the students made the different types of rocks using starburst (metamorphic), white and dark chocolate chips (igneous) and cookies with icing (sedimentary). They were able to make the connection between the types of rocks and the ways we were able to form our own "rocks".

Sorry I'm just now getting new posts up on the site!!

The blog has been down for a month or so. I am sorry about not posting new items to the blog and sharing with you guys the new, fun and exciting things that are going on in our class.

We are Paleontologists!!!

This month we are studying about fossils. We are leaning about how fossils are formed and why they are important. We have become paleontologist as we "dig" through our cookies to see how difficult it is to find bones and keep them intact.

Eureka Math

We have been working hard lately on our fractions unit!! The kids are starting to see the equivalence between fractions and making fractions that are larger than 1 whole (with pictures and on a number line). On this day we were making a number line using our bodies and beanbags...the kids loved it!!
