Garden

Just wanted to brag on our Boys To Men Club. These boys have worked all year on different things, including how to act in social settings, how to tie a tie, how to build a bird house and how to grow a garden (and many more). The garden includes roman lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and squash. They have taken care of it from bringing to end. I can't wait to try some of the yard work they have put in. It been so exciting to see these boys begin to grow into young men this year. A BIG THANKS to Mr. Bogozan and Mr. Clark for leading this club and these boys!!!!

Pollution

We have just started our unit on pollution and and its effects on the environment. We are testing the effects of clean water, oily water and salty water on the growth of lima beans and green beans. Today we planted our beans and put the three types of water in 3 different cups with soil and beans. We will water these plants over the next few weeks and see what happens. Ask you children about what resources we used today and what their predictions are for this experiment. Check back to find out if your or your child's predictions were correct. You can also talk about the types of resources we use each and everyday.

Math Review!!!

This is what math review looks like. Group work is amazing because students can bounce ideas off each other and help each other remember what they have learned all year!! Testing is just a few weeks away!!!

Plants, Plants, and more Plants!!!

We received cabbages from Bonnie Plants. Each student was able to take one home to plant and take care of. They were given instructions on how to take care of it and how to submit it for the contest. Students could win $1,000 towards education and statewide recognition from Bonnie Plants. Make sure to take a digital picture of yourself and your cabbage then submit it to Mrs. Thompson or Mr. Bogozan. Visit www.bonniecabbageprogram.com to watch the parent video and to show your child the student video. Submissions must be turned into Mrs. Thompson or Mr. Bogozan no later than September 20th, even though you've already moved on to the 4th grade. Have fun and happy growing!!!!

Magnetic Slime

Today in class we made magnetic slime. The students were able to play with the slime and a wand magnet. If you would like to make the magnetic slime at home you need 1/4 cup of liquid glue, 1/4 cup of liquid starch and 2 tablespoons of iron filings. It's really exciting to see the students make the connection from what we're learning in our book with what we're learning hands-on.

POLYGONS!!

Today we were learning about the different attributes of different types of polygons. We talked about parallel lines, right angles and equal sides.

Started our new Science unit on MAGNETS!!!

Today we started our unit on magnets. The students worked together in small groups and discussed what the parts of a magnet are and what magnets are used for. I loved listening to the discussions they have with each other. It's amazing the conversations they can have when they are given time to talk about what they are learning and are able to lead their own discussions.
