How to solve a word problem...

Properties of Multiplication

We are leaning about the properties of multiplication. So far we have learned about the commutative property (fact family) and the distributive property (decomposing larger numbers). We will continue to learn about the others as we progress through Module 1.

Practicing multiplication facts is a very important part of 3rd grade...weekly tests coming soon!!!!

Visiting with Mrs. Ruff

This week we went to visit in Mrs. Ruff's Hall of Guidance to learn about the many different rolls she plays at our school. The kids will soon be able to apply for Star Guides and help Mrs. Ruff with "guiding" our new students to the school.

Division

Here are ways that we have learned for solving division equations. Ask your students to give multiple ways for finding the answer to the equation (also, ask for the fact family 😊).

Anchor Charts

Anchor charts are for the students to use as a reference point in our classroom. Hopefully these will also help parents throughout the year when the kids come home and work on their homework or study for a quiz or test. They will have vocabulary words and examples that we use in the classroom, so parents are able to communicate better with their children at home during homework time.

Multiplication...these are the different ways we have learned to write and solve multiplication equations. I will add more as we learn.

Meeting Rollie the Bearded Dragon

Today we met Rollie. He lives in a 4th grade classroom. The kids were so excited to meet and be able to touch him, we also learned about his habitat and his adaptations. We talked about how he is an omnivore and about the types of foods he eats. We have just started learning about habitats and adaptations as part of our 3rd grade science curriculum.

Eureka Math Parent Tips

FAST time

We have FAST time each day after lunch. This stands for Fluency And Study Time for both reading and math. The students are paired or grouped according to their needs. The groups will change as the student's needs change.

The Thompson Times

I would like to welcome you to The Thompson Times. Here you will see fun and interesting things that are going on in our classroom. You will also find helpful information to use at home. I hope you enjoy the blog and that it is helpful and informative.

A little about me:
I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University. I graduated in 2007 and began my career at Bright Star. I have taught both 3rd and 1st grades. I teach Math, Science and Social Studies. I grew up in Clayton County and graduated from Lovejoy High School in 1998. I moved to Douglasville in 2004 shortly after getting married. I have been married to my husband Bill for 10 years, and we have 2 children, a cat and a dog. Saturdays in the fall you will find us cheering on The University of Georgia football team. I enjoy playing outside on sunny days with the kids in the yard. I also enjoy going on outdoor adventures in North Georgia. This past summer my husband and I took a trip to Europe (Ireland, United Kingdom, and France). As a family we enjoying going to the beach, playing at the pool and hanging out with friends. I love my job as a teacher and I’m always excited to see what a new day brings.
